Is Health Care ready to use Big Data? It is making some progress but it is still early days. As the following article from Harvard Business Review points out, there are a few elements that are crucial:

  1. Integrating Data – we’ll need standardization of health care data in order to capture meaningful data
  2. Generating New Knowledge – use of analytics to evaluate relationship across complex variables such as laboratory results, nursing notes, diagnosis, medications etc
  3. Translating Knowledge to Practice – practical application of the knowledge to daily operation will be key to success. This is an important cultural challenge for both those who generate and those who consume the new knowledge
